 Rotory Modeler Magazine's cover shot Nov/Dec 1997!

Rotory Modeler Magazine cover shot
Check out my article on the building of this project which
appeared in the Jan/Feb 1998 issue of Rotory Modeler Magazine!

This is my most recently completed project. The fuselage is a scale Bell 206L-3 LongRanger by Miniature Aircraft. Inside the fuse is an XCell 60 with a Webra 61 engine and Airtronics radio/gyro. The landing gear was scratch built with true to scale tubular aluminum stock (see photo below). All the scale detail items where also scratch built, including the working nightsun, detailed dash and all external antenna.

This is the kit right out of the box,
now the work really begins.

Before paint
Here is a photo of the model before I had started on any of the real scale detailing (rivets). About the only thing completed at this point, other than the assembled tail-drive system, was the landing gear made out of flat aluminum stock, which has since been replaced. The wire strike kit was also scratch built out of aluminum. The tail boom was secured in place with tape for this photo.

Brazing landing gear
Measurements where taken from the real Bell 206L-3 landing gear and this 1/7     scale set was built from those dimensions. Once all the tubing was cut to the correct size and then bent to the correct shape,
the next step was to braze it all together.
Half painted
This is a photo of the fuse with the  base coat and blue paint applied. The vertical fin is covered in red and white Monocoat, the blue is left over vinyl from the lettering.

George on the ramp
Yours truly on the ramp.

Hovering the hanger queen out at the local soccer field. Note the back windows are removed, this is essential for proper engine cooling. I installed the rear windows in a "channel" making it very easy to remove them before flight.
